University of
Massachusetts Dorset Sheep Group
The UMass Dorset Sheep Group is a newly formed organization to
allow students to manage, care for, and show UMass’ flock
of registered Dorset Sheep. We currently have approximately 50 ewes,
2 breeding rams, and 4 spring ram lambs. The group is responsible
for hoof care, vaccinations, breeding maintenance, and neonatal
care during the two lambing seasons. The group is offered as a credited
course through the Animal Science department, and allows students
the opportunity to develop their ovine management skills.
